Walking Dead Issue 97#

I couldn’t be bothered to go get the new avengers vs xmen today so I decided to review the latest walking dead. As you may know this series has been running for many years and made Robert Kirkman, very very famous and quite rich, so good for him.

Overview if you have been under a rock since the release of walking dead, including the tv show: Zombies have appeared, and they did what they do best, eat everyone, forever spawning more zombies (it’s a big planet remember) causing a lot of mess for everyone who are still alive.

It follows a band of survivors led by Rick Grimes, who woke up in hospital after the outbreak of the virus, so it’s like 28 days later in that aspect, but since waking up and finding his family he has gone over a 97 issue adventure where a lot has happened. Seriously a lot, sometimes even I don’t remember it fully. Rick’s group has gained and lost so many members, you may  lose count, but you will always remember the important ones who were lost, including Rick’s Wife and Baby, which is quite ballsy of the writers I thought and sort of heart-breaking, considering it’s a comic book.

The premise is quite simple, “oh we think we’re safe” than the manure hits the proverbial fan and you lose some people, but you never know who! It also adds a slight twist on the zombie story, as it is more about character development from lazy couch potatoes to full blown survivors. As well as people are mostly the more evil threat than the brain-munching zombies. The governor springs to mind here, who will appearing in Walking Deads 3rd tv season at the end of quarter four.

This issue could be seen as semi-special as it begins the latest arc which will lead up to the 100th issue where I’m sure something spectacular and earth shattering will happen, this is what makes the series so great stuff will always happen that forever changes the storyline and the characters within it. For example Rick’s son carl was at first care-free and acted his age, naievity and stuff like that, until all the events have slowly changed him, turning him into a little bad-ass you wouldn’t want to cross.

This new arc is called “Something To Fear” which follows “A Larger World” story chapter, Rick has became allies with a new community which outnumbers his own by a helluva lot, but they are all weaker than his little group of rag-tag survivours. However this community has resources which Rick needs, which brings in a weird “barter” system right about now because for a constant supply of… supplies…. Rick will take care of a group called the “Saviours” which is reallllyyyyy unoriginal.

Still don’t get his readiness to take on a group of unknown size but it’s what he wants to do. This issue is more about introducing the saviours and Rick telling the group that they have to take out this unknown group. As well as some new developments in characters concerning romantic and baby mama wise.

The saviours turn out to be a motorcycle gang, led by a character called "Neegan" who seemed to have transformed this group into some sort of cult or sect, but a heavily armed one,. Rick and co, easily take them on, but of course there is more to come, but your given the idea that they’re possible walking into a situation they cannot deal with.
Person in Picture is not neegan.
And so ends the issue, the story as always is brilliant, but there is one thing that will constantly bother me. The art. It was great in the first 5 issues or so, but since hten it has gradually dropped and got worse to the point where it’s only good at death scenes, and everything else is just as a possible standard to make out who is who.

But im pretty sure Kirkman and co wont fail to deliver an epic for their 100th issue extravaganza

Assorted Geekery Time!

My Initial reaction : “XD XD, XD, XD, XD”

Damn this is some good drawing! Or Painting or however this was created. Not many things can pull fighting Nazis whilst on a gigantor squirrel, but Chewbacca. He truly “Nails it!” the artist does a great job at pulling this off.

Wonder how long till someone frames this and its put in their house?

State of chaos

No idea how old this is but I sort of just stumbled upon it and gave it ago. All you do is enter your name and street address and it creates a short clip of said street being blown to smitherines by a random tai fighter on legs.

Its hella cheesey, much like that app where your record something then it blows up relased for “Ghost Protocal”. Its not that long but its mix of google earth pictures and images makes it kind of believable. My house doesn’t have a mailbox though… technically it was my Mums house.....

So you can either enter in your address or your arch nemesis’ but either way, go blow something up!
Until next time…KABOOM!
